The Magarvey lab defines new ways to realize the next generation of antibiotics and other natural products that kill or modulate drug-resistant pathogens. The modes of discovery stem from the convergence of disciplines of chemistry, microbiology, medicine and computer science to mine beneficial microbes for evolved drugs. The platform technologies created in this pursuit seek to accelerate the discovery of new therapeutic agents from environmental microbes and those from the human microbiome.
