Seasonal influenza virus epidemics remain a major source of global morbidity and mortality. The prevention of influenza is especially challenging because the virus quickly develops “resistance” to seasonal vaccines by virtue of its high mutation rate. The Miller Laboratory is studying strategies to prevent vaccine resistance by targeting conserved features of the virus that do not tolerate mutation.
